What type of paper should I be using for my prints?
For Letterheads
- Japan Woodfree – It’s extremely smooth and not as patchy when you look through in under light. It has a nice off-white colour to it that makes it easy on the eyes for reading.
- Indo Woodfree – This is a material that most of us are familiar with. It has the same colour as most copier papers. It carries a bluish white tone. Otherwise known as a bright white.
- Conqueror – Back in the old days, if you wanted to stand out from the crowd, companies would choose to use Conqueror paper. The Conqueror brand of paper carries a watermark of a horse. It comes in a variety of colours as well as textures. The common colours would be high white, bright white and Vellum. For textures, it would either be wove or laid. Price wise it’s more expensive than standard woodfree paper.
For Envelopes
- Off the shelf – There are ready made envelopes available in the market for you to choose from. Ready made envelopes are usually manufactured using standard white woodfree material and they come in a variety of sizes, the ones that are commonly used would be the ISO C Series (C3, C4, C5, C6, C7, and DL (Din Lang) envelopes. The two common brands available in Singapore are Winpac Envelopes & Anchor Envelopes. If you are planning to order in large quanties, there are envelope manufacturers in Singapore like Nanyang Envelope and Min Hwa who will be able to take on large scale volumes.
- Bespoke Envelopes – If you have a little more budget on hand, custom made envelopes can be done. As the envelopes are made from scratch, you can use almost any brand or type of paper. Your design is pre-printed on flat sheets of paper, a diecut mould will have to be manufactured and it will be used to punch your envelopes out. They will then either be formed to shape by hand or machine. Material thickness to use for custom envelopes are usually between 100gsm to 220gsm. Most companies may not take on low volume orders for bespoke envelopes as it requires a high setup cost.
